Olympic Triathlon

The Olympic distance triathlon features Elite prize money and attracts some of the fastest triathletes in the West. Age groupers and elites compete together on a scenic and fast course.  Relay Team categories are also a feature of the olympic triathlon.
     Distances: Swim 1.5km, Bike 40km, Run 10km
     Date: Sunday June 10, 2012

     Start times: 8:40am Wave #1 Men & RelayTeams
                            9:10am Wave #2 Women
     Age Requirements: 18 year old on Dec 31, 2012

The Course: The swim is a one clockwise rectangular loop starting from the Horseshoe Bay beach. Wetsuits are allowed. The cycling leg is mostly flat with some rolling hills. It starts with a clockwise loop going 3/4 of the way around Wasa Lake and then spins cyclists around to follow the Canadian Rockies and the Kootneay River heading south toward the Heritage Town of Fort Steele. The return portion takes cyclists directly back to the transition area via the south park entry/exit. The triathlon will wrap-up with 2 flat out-and-back run segments, with a cruise by the transition zone in between. To view courses, click on:

Get your tri Club in the
Triathlon CLUB Challenge! Clubs from all over USA and Canada will compete against each other for top spot and cool prizes. Results will be based on lowest total time for the top 5 individual olympic triathletes with at least 2 females will be included. A Tri Club may have any number of triathletes participating in the triathlon, but only five will be counting for the total time. To qualify, all members must be part of the same club that is affiliated with a triathlon governing body, such as Tri BC, ATA, and USAT.   So round up your Tri Club teammates, challenge other clubs, indicate your training club name in the on-line form, and come to the Wasa Triathlon with team spirit and enthusiasm!

Awards and Prize money...
 
Prize Money
:  $4200 in prize money for the elite triathletes competing in the olympic triathlon will be divided equally between female and male categories: 1st $1000, 2nd $500, 3rd $300, 4th $200, 5th $150. Prize money winners will be removed from the age-group awards.

Age-Group categories and awards
Solo:
  For male and female competitors, the age group categories are as follows (age as of December 31st, 2012): 18-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80-84, etc and AWAD category (athletes with a disability - please visit tribc.org for more details)

Teams:
Top teams in each category will be recognized with awards. The total combined AGE (as of Dec. 31, 2012) of the participant of each leg determines the male, female and mixed team category: less than 0-119, 120-154, 155 +.

Note:
As a special feature of the Wasa Triathlon, teams of 2 athletes can compete in the relay team category as follows: Two athletes share the three legs of the triathlon, or the two can use an individual triathlete as their swimmer.

Sprint Triathlon

The Sprint Triathlon is for all athletes ages 16 and up, suited for the first timer and recreational all the way up to the more serious triathlete seeking a speedy effort. The Sprint Triathlon is ran on an overlapping course with the Olympic Triathlon, making for a thrilling race stage.
    Distances: Swim 750m, Bike 20km, Run 5km
   Date: Sunday June 10, 2012
   Start time: 8:10am
  Age Requirement: 16 year old on Dec 31, 2012

The Course

TriKids Triathlon
The Trikids triathlon event is the highlight of the weekend!  Check this out: full course set-up as the adult races, 6 separate races for the various age categories, a TriKids’ orientation clinic prior to the main event, the encouraging voice of race announcer Steve King, souvenir shirt, finisher's medal and a catered post-race lunch for all !!! So kids, sign-up and bring your smiley face to swim, bike and run on your way to the Wasa Triathlon finish line!

The course: For all the details on all the courses of the TriKids races, please see the course map. The swim  will follow the shallow waters along the beach and will be safe for all swimmers. All participants must swim the first leg by making all efforts to not stand and water run. The bike is an out and back route on the quiet park roads. TriKids
can register on-line for the same fee until Wed. June 6th at 11:59pm Pacific Time. Late registration in-person is available on race morning if room remains, but shirts cannot be guaranteed.

Triathlon BC and mandatory race-day insurance
For information on the benefits and how to become an annual Triathlon BC (TriBC) member, go to www.tribc.org . 2012 TriBC members and Alberta Tri members have their insurance covered for this event. All other athletes MUST purchase, in the registration process, a one-day TriBC membership/insurance in order to participate. These fees are:
Sprint and Olympic individuals $15, Relay Team $6 /person, TriKid $1

Refund Policy: No refunds of entry fee, no roll-over of entry to the following year, and no transfer of entry to another racer, sorry.
